Ownership of content

All content published on Elvin - essays, articles, observations - is the intellectual property of Elvin. This includes work submitted by contributing writers. The key points:

  • Elvin holds the publishing rights to every piece on the site
  • Elvin may archive, promote, or republish content in any Elvin-owned context
  • Every piece is permanently credited to the writer who created it
  • Where a piece draws on external sources, those sources are credited within the piece itself
  • We will never sell a writer's work to third parties

What you can do

You are welcome and encouraged to:

  • Read, enjoy, and share links to any essay on Elvin
  • Quote brief passages (a sentence or two) with a clear attribution to Elvin and a link back to the original post
  • Share essays on social media, in newsletters, or in conversation - with a link and credit
  • Use the share buttons on any post page to tweet or copy the link

What you cannot do

  • Republish any essay in full - on your blog, newsletter, website, or anywhere else - without our explicit written permission
  • Present any part of our work as your own
  • Scrape, aggregate, or mirror our content in bulk
  • Use our content to train machine learning models without permission

If you want to republish something in full - say, for a class, a publication, or a community you run - just ask us. We're generally open to it as long as attribution is clear.

Contributing writers

Writers who contribute to Elvin agree to the following when they submit work for publication:

  • Elvin holds the publishing rights to the submitted piece
  • The writer is credited as the author on the piece and on their author page
  • Elvin will not sell the writing to third parties
  • The writer's name stays on the piece permanently

Elvin is a passion project written by people with genuine curiosity, not professional credentials. The essays express personal opinions and perspectives. Nothing on this site constitutes legal, financial, medical, or professional advice of any kind. We write carefully, but we can be wrong - treat our work as a starting point for your own thinking, not as a final authority.

We link to external websites regularly. These links are not endorsements. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or privacy practices of any site we link to.

Accounts and your data

Signing in with Google is optional and only required to bookmark posts or leave comments. By signing in, you agree to let us store your name, email, and profile picture to operate these features. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time via our contact page.

Comments are public and tied to your name. We may remove any comment that violates these terms or applicable law. You can delete your own comments at any time from the post page while signed in.

Changes

We may update these terms over time. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
